The Darke County Nursing Education Council in conjunction with State of the Heart Hospice will sponsor a program for nurses, Thursday, May 5. The program, titled “Surviving a Nursing Audit With a Little Humor” will be held at the Shawnee Prairie Nature Center, 4267 St. Route 502.
“This informative program will explain how to survive a nursing audit and how humor is beneficial,” stated Kelley Hall, Education Coordinator for State of the Heart. The program meets the requirements for Category A contact hour in fulfilling the requirements for licensed nurses, she added.
Featured speakers are Dr. Margaret Hensel, retired family physician, and Kathy O’Dell, RN, MEd, NCSN. There is a $10 fee which includes a light meal and the contact hours.
The program begins at 4:30 with registration and the meal, Hall explained. Dr. Hensel will speak at 5 p.m., followed by Kathy O’Dell at approximately 6:15. There will be drawings for prizes during the program. There will be two contact hours awarded for attending the full program.
“The objectives of the program include explaining the psychosocial benefits of humor, as well as the physiological benefits of humor,” Hall said. Also, the program will identify continuing nursing education programs that are acceptable for renewal of the RN and LPN license. There will be an explanation about how to survive a continuing nursing education audit by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
