>Tractors purchased for County Engineer / County Garage

>

The county engineer added these comments: For a clarification and answer to comments: The tractors are being purchased to replace two current tractors that are 17 years old with well over 7000 operating hours each. Bid solicitations were sent to all area dealers and four bids were received from bidders in Darke, Miami and Preble Counties. The Darke County dealer’s bid was $7,107.60 higher for the two units than the bid from Steinke. We are required to accept the lowest bid that meets the required specifications. These tractors, along with six others, mow 1019 lane-miles of roadways, five times each year. It should also be noted that these are open-station tractors without cabs (they cost an additional $6000 each). The purchase is made with highway funds generated from license and gas tax; not general fund monies that come from sales and property taxes. The County Commissioners are legally required to be the contracting agent for equipment purchase by the Engineer.

    >I believe the T5050 is generally a mowing tractor. Let's at least hope the old "accessories" like the mowing attachment fits the new one..
