>Darke County’s Darryl Mehaffie attended the midnight swearing-in of our new governor, John Kasich. Mr. Mehaffie reported that the beautiful Ohio Capitol building is eerily quiet in the middle of the night. At exactly 12 midnight Mr. Strickland was no longer governor. At that hour the whole new cabinet solemnly filed in; Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor gave the oath of office to Lt. Governor Mary Taylor at about 12:05 a.m. John Kasich, with Mrs. Kasich entered, coming down the steps to be sworn in by Justice O’Connor at 12:10 a.m. before around 100 invited guests. Local area people witnessing the “Midnight in Columbus” on Monday, January 10, 2011 were: Darryl Mehaffie, Greenville, and State Central Committeeman; Harley Jones and Tom Zitter from Mercer County Republican party ; and State Senator Keith Faber.
