Governor-elect John Kasich announced today that State Representative Jim Zehringer will be the new director of the Department of Agriculture when Kasich takes office in January 2011.
Zehringer is a resident of Ft. Recovery and has served as representative of Ohio’s 77th House District for the last four years. Zehringer is a small business owner and has his own family farm (Zehringer’s farm is on the Darke-Mercer County line). Prior to beoming a state representative, Zehringer served as commissioner for Mercer County. Zehringer was the ranking member of the Agriculture Committee in the Ohio House.
Jim Zehringer has been a great leader for the 77th district, particularly on agriculture-related issues. His presence in the district will be missed, but he is the perfect choice for this important job. Congratulations Jim, and best of luck in Columbus.
UPDATE: WHIO has an article and a short interview with Zehringer here.
